Test Instructions

The Navy General Classification Test (NGCT) is a professionally developed IQ Test. This 45 minute test focuses on verbal abilities and is normed for native English speakers.

The NGCT was developed for the US Navy for the purpose of job assignment among soldiers, undergoing constant improvements and revisions over time to ensure its accuracy. Roughly three million recruits completed the NGCT between 1942 and 1946, which is an unparalleled data set for test norming in psychometrics. Furthermore, archival analyses show the NGCT correlates about 0.90 with the earlier Army Alpha intelligence test, indicating very strong overlap with g. Pre-1980 NGCT scores in the top 2 percentile are accepted as qualifying evidence by Mensa, Intertel, and similar high-IQ societies as well. Its questions are designed to minimize prior knowledge from education and culture, due to drafted soldiers being of all classes and lifestyles.

There are three subtests: Sentence Completion (30 items, 15 minutes), Antonyms (30 items, 10 minutes), and Analogies (40 items, 20 minutes). You will be timed by each section and there is no penalty for incorrect or unanswered questions.

This test is free to take.
